Congratulations to Wanneroo Giants on winning the 2022 Australian Intermediate League Championship!
The national champions were crowned in Mildura this afternoon, wrapping up an undefeated campaign with a 5-1 victory over Ryde Hawks. Fellow WA side Eastern Phantoms came fifth after Zai Gordon's 11 strikeouts earlier in the day. "We are incredibly proud of Wanneroo Giants Intermediate League for their amazing efforts to bring home the national championship," Baseball WA CEO Lachlan Dale said. "This success is a testament not only to the determination of the players and coaches, but also to the outstanding work behind the scenes from the committee members and volunteers at Wanneroo Giants Baseball Club. We can't wait to see what the future holds for the Giants." The successful gold medal game was led by Quinn Fatai and Cooper Barber on the mound, backed by strong offense to punch Wanneroo's ticket to the Intermediate 50/70 Baseball World Series later in the year. He then handed the ball to Barber who threw four innings of one-run ball to secure Wanneroo's first Intermediate League title. Wanneroo took the lead in the first when Fatai hit a leadoff single, advanced on a wild pitch, and stole third before scoring on a second wild pitch. The Giants doubled their advantage on a groundout in the third, before scoring twice more in the fourth and again in the sixth to lead 5-0. Ryde rallied in the sixth, scoring a run on Kimi Soong’s RBI single but Barber struck out Ren Adachi with two runners on to end the threat in a 1-2-3 seventh. Comments are closed.
