Baseball WA is excited to announce the 2023/24 Pony Girls programs as we continue to prioritise female participation with a pathway from entry-level baseball to a more advanced junior baseball environment.
“It’s been fantastic to see the success of our Pony Girls programs in recent years, and we are pleased to once again offer dedicated development opportunities to our junior girls, helping to prepare them for adult women’s baseball,“ BWA Participation Manager David Hayes said. “We can’t wait for Pony Girls League and Futures to start later this year as we plan for a big summer of baseball.” Pony Girls League The BWA Pony Youth Girls Baseball League (PGL) will offer all females of League Age 13 to 16 the opportunity to play in a "league of their own" (age cutoff of 31 August 2024). 17 year-olds who are not registered with a club are also encouraged to participate. Games will commence in mid-November and conclude prior to Easter. Pony Girls League provides teenage girls with a competitive game environment to compete, participate and develop. Whilst winning and losing is part of any league, this program focuses primarily on individual enjoyment and improvement. Our 2023/24 Pathway Clubs include Willetton, Kelmscott, Braves, Kalamunda, Carine, Wanneroo and Morley. PROGRAM COST: $150 – includes program cap, playing tee, usage of Empire Ballpark and equipment. Clubs may add their own fee to cover club costs such as game balls and umpires, etc. Pony Girls Futures The Baseball WA Futures (PGF) is an ideal way for female players to grow and develop their skills in an all-girl environment. The program is for female athletes aged 10 through 13 years old. 9-year-olds not otherwise playing baseball are also encouraged to register. This season, Futures will run for the same period as League, with a mid-November start and finishing before Easter. Game scores are not kept allowing coaches to put players in positions to gain valuable experience that girls often miss out on if only playing Saturday juniors - including pitching, catching and key infield positions. We highly recommend this program to girls playing junior baseball, girls coming out of or currently playing tee-ball or softball, and girls who have not played diamond sports before or have not played for some years. Our 2023/24 Pathway Clubs and regions include West (Carine), North-East (Wanneroo, Morley), South-West (Braves, Willetton), and South-East (Kalamunda, Kelmscott). PROGRAM COST: $150 – includes program cap, think.again training tee, usage of uniform top, payment to team coach, usage of Empire Ballpark and equipment. Clubs may add their own fee to cover club costs such as game balls and umpires, etc. Read more details on our website and stay tuned for Pony Girls registration which will open later this year. Wanneroo Giants are headed to the Junior League World Series!
This talented group of 12 to 14-year-old baseballers were thrilled to bring home the 2023 Australian Junior League Championship after an action-packed week in Adelaide. The Giants put together a 6-0 campaign with 65 runs scored and 25 runs given up throughout the tournament. Their dominance continued into the gold medal game where Wanneroo held on for a 3-2 win over Adelaide Marlins. After clinching the Australian Championship, Wanneroo will continue training in preparation for their next stop: the Junior League World Series in Taylor, Michigan, USA from 13-20 August. “We are incredibly proud of these juniors who have continued to develop their skills through hard work on and off the field,” BWA Participation Manager David Hayes said. “Many of these players were on last year’s Intermediate League team that represented Australia at the World Series. What an incredible opportunity they have to continue chasing their baseball dreams this year.” “We congratulate everyone involved on an amazing AJLC performance and we can’t wait to see what the World Series has in store.” Stay tuned for more updates from Wanneroo Giants Junior League as the World Series draws closer. Baseball WA is seeking suitably motivated and available coaches to join our Sporting Schools team commencing in Term 3.
We are looking for two additional facilitators to ensure all job requests are covered, with one in the south coastal region and one in the north coastal region. Facilitators will deliver tee-ball, machine pitch, and Baseball5 to local schools in their region so we can meet growing demand. An hourly rate is paid to all facilitators with flexible availability. If you are interested in joining the team, please email BWA Participation Program Manager David Hayes ASAP at [email protected]. The 2023 Barclay Cup is coming to Carine Cats Baseball Club from 1-7 October, and player and coach nominations are now open.
