The 2021/22 State League 1 season is moving full steam ahead with another huge weekend of baseball in the books. The Braves improved to 8-1 while Wanneroo is now 6-1. Swans, Morley, and Vic Park round out the top five.

Check out recaps from this past weekend: Perth 2 v Wanneroo 3 Friday's game against Wanneroo Giants was a heartbreaker for Perth as they lost the lead late in a 3-2 defeat. The game was tied at two with the Giants batting in the top of the seventh when Ben King singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run. The pitching was strong on both sides as Wanneroo pitchers struck out ten, while Perth sat down seven. Perth got things moving in the first inning, when Matt Sibley singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Wanneroo knotted the game up at two in the top of the sixth inning, when Daniel Stephenson's sac fly scored one run. Coner Lourey toed the rubber for Wanneroo. The fireballer surrendered two runs on one hit over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one. Jake White was on the pitcher's mound for Perth. The righty lasted seven innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out seven. Brady Oliphant, Edgar Mundarain, Sibley, Nathan Driessen, Ben Randall, and Brayden Moyle all had one hit to lead Perth. Byron Armstrong led the Giants with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with five stolen bases. Braves 11 v Carine 0 Todd Hatcher shut down Carine Cats, throwing a complete game shutout and leading the Braves to a 11-0 victory on Sunday. The Braves tallied four runs in the sixth inning with the offensive firepower led by Tim Kennelly and Kevin Clark, all driving in runs. A single by Andre Bello in the second inning was a positive for Carine. Hatcher pitched the Braves to victory. The lefthander allowed five hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out ten. Jacob Stanton took the loss for Carine, going three and a third innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out three and walking zero. The Braves tallied two home runs on the day. Sam Kennelly put one out in the fifth inning and Clark had a dinger in the sixth. The Braves totaled 11 hits including multiple to Clark, Masato Nishio, and Kennelly. Clark went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Braves in hits and didn't commit a single error in the field. Cody Parkinson had the most fielding chances with 11. Carine tallied five hits in the game as Tom Hartley went 3-for-3 and Bello had multiple hits too. Braves 15 v Carine 4 Sam Kennelly would not be denied at the plate when runners were on base on Sunday, driving in four on two hits to lead the Braves past Carine Cats 15-4 in Sunday's second game of the doubleheader. Kennelly drove in runs on a home run in the third, a walk in the fourth, and a home run in the seventh. Carine scored four runs in the sixth inning, but the Braves still managed to pull out the victory. Tom Hartley, Declan Phillips, and Carlos Salas all had RBIs in the inning. The Braves got things moving in the first inning when Ben Drew singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. The team kept scoring throughout the game, going on to add three runs in the eighth with RBIs from Jordan Dyer and Kevin Clark. Flynn McGahan pitched the Braves to victory. The pitcher allowed three hits and four runs over three innings, striking out five. Kennelly and Daniel Choi entered the game out of the bullpen. Cameron Landy took the loss for Carine. The pitcher surrendered four runs on six hits over three innings, striking out one. Ryan Nuttall started the game for the Braves. The righty lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out one and walking zero. The Braves tallied two home runs on the day. Kennelly went for the long ball in the third and seventh innings. Overall the team had 15 hits including two apiece for Drew, Choi, Geoff Kerr, Kennelly, and Jack Rigden. The Braves also didn't make any errors in the field as Cody Parkinson had 11 chances, the most on the team. Hartley went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Cats in hits. Carine slipped to 2-6 and plays Vic Park next while the Braves are on top of the ladder with a 8-1 record before playing Vic Park next Wednesday. South Perth 1 v Wembley 6 South Perth Cubs fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 6-1 loss to Wembley Magpies on Sunday. The Magpies took the lead on an RBI single from Nick Alexiou in the first inning. Alexiou pitched Wembley to victory. The righty went seven innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out 13. Lucas John took the loss for South Perth. The hurler went six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, striking out one and walking one. Warwick Saupold went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Cubs in hits. South Perth didn't commit a single error in the field as Patrick Temby had six chances, the most on the team. Wembley racked up ten hits in the game. Riley Spring went 3-for-3 and Jayson Brown and Alex Osuchowski had multiple hits for Wembley too. South Perth 12 v Wembley 2 Four runs batted in from Jake Bowey helped lead South Perth Cubs past Wembley Magpies 12-2 in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader. Bowey drove in runs on a triple in the first, a wild pitch in the fifth, and a home run in the eighth. The Cubs got things moving in the first inning, when Bowey tripled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. They put four runs in the fifth with RBIs from Bowey, Patrick Temby, Adam Barbarich, and Jaxon Limpus. Tyler Paull was the winning pitcher for South Perth. The ace went six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out three. Michael Albertini took the loss for Wembley. The hurler surrendered five runs on seven hits over four innings, striking out six. Will Sherriff started the game for the Cubs. The hurler surrendered zero runs on one hit over two innings, striking out two. The Cubs had nine hits in the game with two apiece for Luke Mann, Bowey, and Max Wheeler. The Magpies scattered eight hits in the game, including multiple for Nick Alexiou and Jayson Brown. After splitting the doubleheader, Wembley has a 2-5-1 record and plays Perth on Sunday. South Perth has four wins and four losses going into a big game v Wanneroo this coming Sunday. Victoria Park Belmont 3 v Morley 15 Victoria Park Belmont Reds fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 15-3 loss to Morley Eagles on Sunday. The Eagles scored on a home run by Aaron Bonomi in the first inning and a home run by Luke Hughes in the second inning. Morley went on to score five runs in the sixth with home runs from Hughes and Mitchell Schofield and a single by Cody Holt. Brendan Sing led things off on the mound for Morley. The ace went six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, striking out six and walking zero. Mathew Martin started the game for the Reds. The bulldog lasted two and a third innings, allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out two. Andrew Hurrelbrink and Matthew Reynolds entered the game in relief, throwing three and a third innings and one-third of an inning respectively. Vic Park socked one home run on the day. Jack Smalpage had a long ball in the third inning. The Reds had eight hits total in the game with two apiece for Zak Meloncelli and Josh Paull. The Reds didn't commit a single error in the field as Smalpage had the most chances with seven. Morley racked up 17 hits, including multiple for Hughes, Zac McMillin, Schofield, Bonomi, and Kieran Chapman. They didn't make any errors either as Chapman led the way with seven chances. Victoria Park Belmont 1 v Morley 14 Victoria Park Belmont Reds fell behind early in the second game and couldn't come back in a 14-1 loss to Morley Eagles. Morley scored on a single by Alex Hall in the first inning and a home run by Luke Hughes in the second inning. Morley scored four runs in the fifth inning with a single by Brandon Migro, a sacrifice fly by Mitchell Schofield, and a double by Cody Holt. Corey Brown was on the pitcher's mound for the Reds, giving up six runs on nine hits over three innings. Daniel Meloncelli, Matthew Reynolds, and Adam England each contributed in relief for the Reds. Jack Smalpage went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Reds in hits. The side didn't make a single error as Smalpage had the most chances in the field with ten. Morley racked up 17 hits, including multiple to Migro, Aaron Bonomi, Hughes, Holt, and Hall, who made the most plays with seven in an error-free game. Morley is now 4-2 and plays the Swans next Sunday while Vic Park is 5-3 and looking for a win at Carine. Gosnells 0 v Wanneroo 7 Gosnells Hawks fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 7-0 loss to Wanneroo Giants on Sunday. The Giants scored on a double by Owen Pilcher and a single by Nicholas Riley in the second inning. A single by Jack Burt in the second inning was a positive for Gosnells. Tom Bailey led the Giants to victory on the mound. Bailey went six innings, allowing zero runs on three hits and striking out nine. Jay Reynolds, Jay Bullingham, and Jackson Riley all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. Adam Millson took the loss for the Hawks. The pitcher allowed seven hits and four runs over three innings, striking out four and walking one. Luke Houston, Burt, and Tim Leitch each managed one hit for the Hawks. Wanneroo saw the ball well, racking up 13 hits including multiple from Pilcher, Coner Lourey, Dawson Summers, and Courtney Jones. Wanneroo sits second at 6-1 and plays the Swans on Wednesday night while Gosnells is 1-5 going into a game v Rockingham this weekend. Swan Districts 11 v Perth 1 Swan Districts Swans sailed to an easy victory over Perth 11-1 on Sunday. The Swans jumped on the board in the first with a two-run homer from Maddux Stivey. The Swans also notched four runs in the third inning with RBIs from Dan Carter, Bailey-Jay Cooke, Stivey, and Lewdon Te Mara. Tyson Noel got the win for the Swans. Noel lasted five innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out six. Stivey and Dillan Clarkson entered the game out of the bullpen. Ben Randall took the loss for Perth, going one and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out one and walking one. The Swans saw the ball well, racking up 12 hits in the game. Ashton Hamilton, Daniel Johnston, Stivey, and Trent Daniele each had multiple hits as Hamilton went 3-for-4 at the plate. The Swans didn't commit a single error in the field either as Brody Clarkson had eight chances, the most on the team. Declan Phillips started the game for Carine and recorded 12 outs. Tyson Noel was credited with the victory for the Swans. The southpaw lasted five innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out nine and walking one. Maddux Stivey threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Phillips took the loss for Carine. The pitcher surrendered three runs on three hits over four innings, striking out two. Tarrant Reimers, Tom Hartley, Carlos Salas, Josh Davies, and Cameron Landy each managed one hit to lead the Cats. Bailey-Jay Cooke went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Swans in hits. Perth scored four runs in the second inning, but the Braves still managed to pull out the victory. The big inning for Perth came thanks to a single by Brayden Moyle and a double by Aki Tsukaguchi. The Braves put up five runs in the fifth inning with RBIs from Sam Kennelly, Clark, Cody Parkinson, and Masato Nishio. Cameron Lamb took the win for the Braves. The righty allowed zero hits and zero runs over two and a third innings, striking out four and walking zero. Daniel Schmidt and Kennelly entered the game out of the bullpen. Brock Molloy led things off on the pitcher's mound for the Rams, giving up three runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out six. Mitchell Field threw one inning out of the bullpen. The Eagles fired up the offense in the second inning, when Cody Holt singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. They added four runs in the sixth inning. Baseball WA is pleased to share the schedule for our 2021 Tee-Ball Super Challenge starting Wednesday 3 November. Now in its third year, this tournament provides more opportunities for entry-level tee-ballers to play teams from other clubs. All rules associated with TBAWA Under 11 division apply and there are four clubs taking part this year: Carine, Roleystone, Secret Harbour and Forest Lakes. “We are excited for the third annual Tee-Ball Super Challenge and giving these athletes the chance to develop their skills and take part in an exciting, inclusive competition," Baseball WA Participation Program Manager David Hayes said. “Our teams had a great time last year and we can't wait for another awesome tee-ball event." Baseball WA has implemented changes to bat regulations as BBCOR and USA bat stamps are now mandatory for all senior competitions as per below:
13.3.4 Any aluminum, ceramic or carbon graphite bats must meet the following standards: • Any bat (either composite or hybrid bat) must be stamped with BBCOR or USA Bats to be considered a legal bat. • A bat must not have a drop greater than -8 ounces to be considered a legal bat. 13.3.6 Teams found using illegal bats will have the bat removed from the game.
