After the success of the 2020 Schools Baseball Competition pilot program, Baseball WA is pleased to announce the launch of the full competition for later this year. Four primary and four secondary schools participated in the 2020 event, with St Mark's Anglican Community School and Sacred Heart College winning their respective competitions. Nominations for the 2021 Schools Baseball Competition are now open. Schools will be placed into divisions based on school size, student experience and past tournament performance.

State League 1 teams aren't slowing down as finals get closer. After another big weekend of baseball, Wanneroo, Morley, Braves and South Perth remain top four teams in the competition with more exciting rounds of baseball to come. Gosnells Hawks 8 v Wembley Magpies 0 Gosnells Hawks defeated Wembley Magpies 8-0 on Wednesday night as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Joshua Silvi struck out Sandon Isle to finish off the game. The Hawks got their offense started in the first when Louis Scaramella doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. The Hawks tallied four runs in the sixth inning. Luke Houston, Lee Wisby, Brandon Varis, and Travis McIntyre all moved runners across the plate with RBIs. One bright spot for Wembley was a single by Riley Spring in the first inning. Adam Millson was the winning pitcher for Gosnells. The pitcher threw four scoreless innings, giving up four hits, striking out three and walking zero. Silvi threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Patrick Frezza started the game for the team as the righty allowed two hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out three. Bradley Tate took the loss for Wembley. The bulldog surrendered four runs on six hits over five innings, striking out two. The Hawks tallied nine hits on the day with two apiece from Robin Adamson and Scaramella. The team was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error as Adamson had the most chances with ten. Wembley totaled six hits in the game. Spring and Isle both racked up multiple hits. The Hawks take a 8-9-2 record into the next round with a doubleheader v Morley. Carine Cats 2 v Morley Eagles 9 Sunday was a long day for Carine as the Cats fell 9-2 to Morley. Brendan Sing took the win for the Eagles. The pitcher lasted five innings, allowing four hits and zero runs while striking out six and walking one. Koskei Partington-Hopes threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Tarrant Reimers took the loss for Carine. The bulldog allowed six hits and four runs over five innings, striking out four. Morley launched two home runs on the day. Adrian Blount went deep in the sixth and Lachy Southee went for the long ball in the seventh. Cooper McDonnell went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Carine in hits while Morley collected 13 hits in total. Joshua Lynch, Blount, and Kieran Chapman all had multiple hits while Morley made no errors in the field. Matt Dixon had the most chances with nine. Carine Cats 2 v Morley Eagles 8 The second game of the day saw a similar scoreline as Carine had a tough time generating runs in an 8-2 loss to Morley. The Eagles scored six runs in the sixth inning with a single by Aaron Bonomi, a home run by Zac McMillin, and a double by Brandon Migro. Lachy Southee led the Eagles to victory on the hill. The ace allowed three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking zero. Christopher House and Ashley Barnes entered the game out of the bullpen to close it out. Jacob Stanton took the loss for Carine after throwing five and two-thirds innings, allowing ten hits and seven runs while striking out one. The Cats launched one home run on the day when Tarrant Reimers homered in the ninth. They had nine hits totally, including two apiece for Jeffrey Chandler and Josh Davies. Morley tallied 12 hits on the day. Matt Dixon, McMillin, and Bonomi all managed multiple hits for as Dixon went 3-for-5 to lead the way. He also made the most plays in the field with ten. Morley has a 15-4 record with upcoming games v Gosnells while Carine's next game is at Perth. Perth Baseball Club 1 v Wanneroo Giants 11 Nothing came easy for Perth on Sunday afternoon in an 11-1 loss to Wanneroo. The Giants scored four runs in the fourth on a grand slam by Madison Beaird. Jay Bullingham pitched the Giants to victory, allowing five hits over five scoreless innings, striking out four and walking one. Callum Schipp threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Matt Durbin took the loss for Perth. The righthander went three innings, allowing seven runs on four hits and striking out three. Perth hit one home run on the day when Nathan Driessen put one out in the sixth. Driessen led the team with two hits in two at bats. Beaird went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Giants in hits. Wanneroo was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error as Courtney Jones made the most plays with five. Perth Baseball Club 3 v Wanneroo Giants 6 Perth fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 6-3 loss to Wanneroo on Sunday night. Perth lost despite out-hitting Wanneroo eight to six. The Giants took the lead on a home run by Nick Irwin in the second inning. They went on to score four more in the fourth with RBIs by Nicholas Riley, Byron Armstrong, Ethan Cooper, and Irwin. Chris King was the winning pitcher for Wanneroo, throwing five innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out three. Jackson Riley threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen, recording the last 12 outs to earn the save. Matteo Pizziconi took the loss for Perth. The lefty went three innings, allowing six runs on five hits and striking out three. Edgar Mundarain went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the team in hits. Wanneroo's Irwin went 2-for-3 as well and made the most chances in the field with 13. The ladder-leading Giants have 19 wins and two losses going into Sunday's doubleheader v South Perth. Perth has a 10-12 record and plays Wembley next. South Perth Cubs 3 v Wembley Magpies 8 Even though South Perth collected eight hits to Wembley's three, they still fell 8-3 on Sunday afternoon. Wembley scored four runs in the fifth inning with RBIs from Joris Van Ballegooy, Sandon Isle, Nick Alexiou, and Chris Crawford. Crawford led things off on the hill for Wembley. The ace lasted five innings, allowing eight hits and three runs while striking out seven. Tyler Paull pitched three and two-thirds innings for South Perth, allowing three runs on two hits and one strikeout. Connor Chehab and Brett Walters entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two-thirds of an inning and two-thirds of an inning respectively. Caleb Goodwin led South Perth with two hits in three at bats. The Cubs didn't commit a single error as Aaron MacDonald made the most plays with seven, the same amount as Wembley's Callan Anderson. South Perth Cubs 13 v Wembley Magpies 3 Max Wheeler meant business on Sunday, tallying five hits and leading South Perth to a 13-3 win over Wembley. Wheeler doubled in the first and third and had base hits in the fourth, sixth, and eighth. Wembley scored three runs in the first with a single by Callan Anderson, a sacrifice fly by Joshua Houston, and an error on a ball put in play by Riley Spring. South Perth scored nine runs in the third inning as Kent Fitzgibbons and Tanner McCarn homered and Aaron MacDonald tripled on a 2-0 count. Caleb Goodwin had an RBI single while Wheeler doubled on the first pitch of his at-bat to score two more runs. Scott Cornish doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run, and McCarn singled on a 3-2 count to score another. Goodwin led things off on the mound for South Perth. After a successful doubleheader, South Perth improves to a 13-8 record going into two big games v Wanneroo. Wembley is 5-16 and plays Perth next. Swan Districts Swans 2 v Braves Baseball Club 4 Swan District Swans watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 4-2 loss to the Braves on Sunday. The Braves scored on singles by Lochlainn Varian and Jack Rigden in the second. Todd Hatcher was credited with the victory as the lefthander allowed two hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out five. Dillian Clarkson took the loss for the Swans as he surrendered four runs on nine hits over seven innings, striking out four. Dylan Bojarski led the Swans with two hits in two at-bats. The Braves tallied nine hits on the day with multiple rom Jordan Dyer, Rigden, Jaxon Date, and Varian. Rigden stole two bases as the team was successful on the base paths. Swan Districts Swans 4 v Braves Baseball Club 5 The Swan Districts Swans stayed in it until the end, but the Braves pulled away late in a 5-4 victory on Sunday night. The game was tied at four with the Braves batting in the top of the ninth when Sean Garratt drew a walk, scoring one run. The Swans got their offense started in the second when Brody Clarkson homered on a 2-2 count, scoring three runs. Alex Oehme took the win for the Braves. The lefty lasted three and a third innings with no hits or runs. Flynn McGahan threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Tyson Noel took the loss for the Swans. The lefthander went two innings, allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts. Riley Moore started the game, throwing seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out nine. Ryan Nuttall started the game for the Braves. The pitcher lasted three innings, allowing two hits and three runs while striking out three and walking one. The Swans hit one home run on the day as Clarkson had a long ball in the second inning. Dylan Bojarski, Clarkson, and Kirk Peacock all had one hit to lead the Swans. The Braves totaled nine hits in the game, including multiple rom Jack Rigden and Kevin Clark. They didn't make any errors as Sam Winfield had the most chances in the field with 14. Victoria Park Belmont Reds 4 v Rockingham Rams 8 Victoria Park Belmont Reds fell behind early and couldn't come back in an 8-4 loss to Rockingham on Sunday. The Rams scored on a double by Cayden Nicoletto in the first, plus a single by Rui Harrison and a sacrifice fly by Cayden Hancock in the second. The Rams went on to score three runs in the fourth inning thanks to a triple by Nicoletto and a double by Chase Diggins. Zachary Gomersall led things off on the mound for Rockingham. The bulldog went four innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out one. Riley Marsh was on the mound for the Reds. He threw three and a third innings, allowing six runs on seven hits. Daniel Meloncelli threw three and two-thirds innings in relief. Mathew Martin went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Reds in hits. Rockingham saw the ball well today, racking up ten hits in the game. Harrison went 3-for-3 in the game. Victoria Park Belmont Reds 1 v Rockingham Rams 0 Victoria Park Belmont defeated Rockingham on Sunday night as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Corey Brown induced a groundout from Cayden Nicoletto to finish off the game. The pitching was strong on both sides. The Reds' pitchers struck out two, while the Rams' pitchers sat down seven. One bright spot for Rockingham was a single by Joshua Diggins in the third inning. Mathew Martin earned the victory on the mound for the Reds, allowing three hits across seven scoreless innings. The Eagles scored seven runs in the failed comeback on a error during Joshua Lynch's at bat, a home run by Christopher House, a double by Kieran Chapman, a sacrifice fly by Zac McMillin, a single by Travis Murphy, and a single by Brandon Migro.
