Michael Moyle

Born September 8, 1971

Michael is the second eldest of 4 Moyle boys, all sons of Baseball WA Hall of Fame Member Darryl. Like all the Moyle boys, Michael played all his WA junior and senior baseball at the Perth Baseball Club. As a teenager he was a member of many WA State junior teams and was selected in 1989 in the under 19 Australian team. At the tender age of 16 Michael was the starting shortstop for the Perth Heat in the inaugural ABL season.

Moving from shortstop to behind the plate as a catcher, Michael quickly caught the eye of many professional scouts from the USA and signed a professional contract with the Cleveland Indians organisation in 1992. In seven years with the Indians Moyle reach AA ball and was named in the Carolina All Star Team for 1996 and Atlantic League All Star Team for 1999. Michael also played one year professionally in Japan.

On completion of his professional career Michael’s baseball focus quickly shifted to the Australian National Team where he starred in the Green & Gold. In 1999 Moyle was named MVP in the Tri Nations Tournament in Taipei, hit the most home runs in the 1999 Continental Cup and was named in the 1999 World All Star Team.

Maybe his major highlight and greatest accomplishment was being the starting catcher for Team Australia at the 2000 Sydney Olympics!
