Baseball scorers play an important role at every level of the game, providing a running record of what happens on the field and valuable information for players, coaches, umpires, officials and spectators.
In Western Australia, the Western Australian Baseball Scorers and Statisticians Association (WABSSA) supports the development of new and experienced scorers through education, accreditation, clinics and ongoing support.
Many scorers first become involved through their local club or their child’s junior team, learning the basics from another scorer or attending a clinic. From there, scorers can choose how slowly or quickly they wish to develop their skills and progress through the national accreditation pathway.
Whether you want to support your local team or aspire to score at state, national or international level, there is a pathway available.

WABSSA Scoring Education Program
The WABSSA Committee has been working hard to make scoring education more accessible for both new and experienced scorers throughout Western Australia.
Join our exciting new learning pathway and progress at your own pace. Please note: WABSSA membership is required each year to obtain and maintain scoring accreditation.
Level 0 – Beginner Scorer
Perfect for anyone starting their scoring journey.

An introduction to recording games through the GameChanger program.

Level 1 – Intermediate / Club Scorer
Designed to advance scoring knowledge and develop the skills required for regular club scoring. Requires scoring experience and an understanding of Baseball Scoring Rules Chapter 9

- Learn player statistical recording
- Multiple assessment activities
- Theory and practical examinations
- Online Zoom support
- One-on-one statistics sessions available
GameChanger Scorer
For accredited scorers looking to develop advanced GameChanger competency.
- Hold a current Level 1 National Accreditation
- Complete a GameChanger practical examination
- New Google Classroom content coming soon
Level 2 – Advanced / Senior Scorer
For experienced scorers progressing into senior, representative and higher-level baseball.
- Collaboration and workshop-based classroom learning
- Discuss complex scoring situations
- Submit three scored games for review
- Theory and practical examinations required
- Available 12 months after achieving Level 1
Level 3 – Elite / State & National Scorer
For experienced Level 2 scorers progressing to state and national competition.
- Comprehensive Baseball and Official Baseball Rules learning
- Strong Official Baseball Rules knowledge required
- Theory and practical examinations required
- Available after holding Level 2 for at least two years
Advanced Learning Modules
WABSSA is also developing specialised Google Classrooms for scorers looking to further their knowledge in specific areas.
Modules include:
- Earned Runs
- Unearned Runs – DOT Method
- Win, Loss and Save
- Tie Breaker Situations
Completion of Level 1 is recommended before attempting the advanced learning modules.
Learn at Your Own Pace
A scorer can choose how slowly or quickly they wish to learn or become accredited.
Some scorers are happy supporting their local team or club, while others continue through junior and senior baseball before progressing to state and national tournaments.
No matter what level a scorer is at, WABSSA is always keen to help those who wish to learn or have questions, regardless of whether they are currently accredited.
WABSSA membership is required each year to obtain and maintain scoring accreditation.
