Baseball WA is pleased to announce head coaches for the 2025 Australian Women’s Championships this April.
Andy Cooke will coach the WA Women’s State Team for the AWC at Melbourne Ballpark, Altona, Victoria from Sunday 13 April through Saturday 19 April.
Gus Golding will coach the WA Youth Women’s State Team playing at the AYWC from 15-19 April.
“We are excited to have two experienced coaches leading our women’s baseball program on the national stage,” Baseball WA CEO Lachlan Dale said. “A huge thank you to our outgoing coaches, Kurt Russell (AWC) and Beyanka Girdlestone (AYWC), for all the amazing work they did to set up the teams over the past two years. We greatly appreciate their contributions, and we are in a great position to continue our quest for improved development and performance outcomes.”
Andy Cooke was part of the 2024 BWA High Performance Coaching Staff and most recently coached the West Coast Rays at the Barclay Cup in Sydney this past September.
“I am super excited to be part of the group representing WA at the Australian Championships in 2025, and I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead,” Andy said. “My goal is to cultivate hardworking and focused athletes while continuing to develop players with an emphasis on teamwork and perseverance.”
Gus Golding is excited to lead the Youth Women’s team after serving as an assistant coach at last year’s championships while also building on his current experience as head coach of the Braves U16 Girls Team.
“I am incredibly excited and honoured to be appointed as the Head Coach of the Western Australia U16 team for the Australian Youth Women’s Championship. This opportunity represents a chance to continue building on the incredible work of those who have come before me in fostering and developing youth girls’ baseball in WA,” Gus said.
“Western Australia is fortunate to have a strong pipeline of talented and passionate players rising through the ranks. I look forward to working with these athletes as we represent WA at the AYWC and to support their growth both as players and as individuals.
“Girls’ baseball in WA is thriving, and I am committed to ensuring we remain a strong and competitive force on the national stage. Let’s go, WA!”
We will be communicating tryout dates shortly.
