There was plenty of big baseball action over the weekend as the 2024/25 Harcher State League continued. After the third week of play, Wanneroo, Braves, Morley, and Perth are in the top four, with several teams hot on their heels.

Perth 3, Swan Districts Swans 0
Both teams were strong on the hill in this Friday night matchup, although Perth prevailed with a final score of 3-0. Jordano Vivona started the game for Perth and recorded 15 outs.
Perth opened the scoring in the first after Spencer Sarringar singled, scoring one run. The team’s starting pitcher allowed two hits over five scoreless innings with five strikeouts and one walk. Riley Oliphant threw two innings of no-run ball in relief of Vivona. The reliever surrendered one hit, striking out two and walking none.
Dillian Clarkson started the game for Swan Districts. The lefty gave up six hits and two runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out seven and walking none.
Sarringar and Joshua McGee each drove in one run for Perth while Kai Bancesco went 2-for-3 to lead the team in hits. Perth didn’t make any errors as Sarringar had the most plays with seven.
Landen Barns, Taj Egan, and Riley Ozanne each collected one hit for Swans.
Braves 6, Carine Cats 1
The bottom of the lineup helped Braves capture a 6-1 victory over Carine Cats on Sunday. Daniel Choi, Lochlann Varian, and Lenny Golding combined for five of the team’s 10 hits.
Braves got on board in the top of the first inning after an error scored one run and Ben Drew doubled, scoring two.
Todd Hatcher opened the game for Braves, allowing three hits and one run over four innings, striking out nine and walking one.
Conor Lourey started the game for Carine, giving up seven hits and four runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking three.
Tucker Smith pitched three innings of shutout ball for Braves in relief, with one hit, one walk, and four strikeouts.
Braves tallied 10 hits in the game. Drew provided pop in the middle of the lineup, leading the side with three runs batted in on a 2-for-3 day. Choi, Drew, Golding, and James Smibert each had two hits.
Braves were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Choi had the most chances in the field with 13.
Lourey went 1-for-3 at the plate and led Carine with one run batted in. Kylan Granland had two hits in three at-bats while the defense turned one double play.
Gosnells Hawks 8, UWA Magpies 0
Gosnells Hawks scored six runs in the fourth inning, helping them defeat UWA Magpies 8-0 on Sunday at Tom Bateman Reserve in Thornlie.
Braedan Stannard drew a walk, scoring one run, Lee Wisby singled, scoring one run, Robin Adamson doubled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, and Taj Vaga was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.
Earlier, Jarrod McKay’s single put Hawks on the board in the second inning. Jason Armstrong got the win on the mound, giving up one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out one and walking six.
Nick Alexiou took the loss for UWA Magpies. He threw three and one-third innings, giving up seven runs (six earned) on four hits, striking out four and walking five.
McKay, Wisby, and Adamson each collected two hits for Gosnells. Adamson went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the side with two runs batted in. Ryan Smith took two of the team’s six walks while the defense turned one double play.
Jacob Davila went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead UWA Magpies in hits. Madoka Honjo led the side with two out of six walks.
Carine Cats 11, Braves 6
Carine Cats bested Braves 11-6 on Sunday at Carine Open Space.
Braves got on board in the second inning after Daniel Choi singled, scoring one run, and added to their early lead in the top of the third inning on Kevin Clark’s single and Ben Drew’s sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
Marcus Strother homered to center field, helping Carine tie the game at three in the bottom of the third. Braves broke up the tie in the top of the fourth when Joel Beches singled, scoring one run. Then a groundout by Jack Rigden followed to extend the lead to 5-3.
Carine tied the game in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a single by Cooper McDonnell and a sacrifice fly by Brendan Heath. Clark hit a solo home run to left field to give Braves a 6-5 edge in the top of the fifth.
Carine regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Carlos Salas singled, scoring one run, and McDonnell doubled, scoring two runs.
Tim Holmes started on the hill for Carine, giving up nine hits and six runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out six and walking none.
Shaun Atamanchuk led things off on the mound for Braves. The starting pitcher gave up eight hits and five runs over three innings, striking out four and walking two.
Carine collected 14 hits in the game, including three apiece for McDonnell and Bailey Moorfield. McDonnell and Strother each drove in three runs while Salas went 2-for-4.
Braves tallied nine hits in the game. Clark provided pop in the middle of the lineup, leading Braves with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 3-for-4 on the day. Geoff Kerr also had three hits for Braves while the defense turned one double play.
Gosnells Hawks 1, UWA Magpies 0
Both teams were strong on the bump but Gosnells prevailed 1-0. Tim Leitch started the game for Gosnells and recorded seven outs. Hawks opened the scoring in the first after Robin Adamson hit an RBI double.
Leitch led things off on the hill for Gosnells. The righty gave up one hit and zero runs over two and one-third innings with no walks or strikeouts.
Riley Hall opened the game for UWA Magpies, allowing three hits and one run over two innings, walking one.
Adamson led Gosnells with one run batted in on a 1-for-2 day. Brendan Warner, Lee Wisby, and Adamson each collected one hit while the defense didn’t make any errors. Adamson had the most chances in the field with three.
Jacob Davila led UWA Magpies with one hit in one at-bat.
Wanneroo Giants 3, Rockingham Rams 2
Wanneroo Giants snatched the lead late in their 3-2 victory over Rockingham Rams on Sunday. The game was tied at two in the bottom of the eighth when Courtney Jones singled, scoring one run.
Pitching was strong on both sides. Wanneroo pitchers struck out six while Rockingham Rams sat down 11.
Wanneroo got on board in the first inning after Byron Armstrong homered to left field, scoring two runs. David Nichols grounded into a fielder’s choice, helping Rockingham tie it at two in the top of the fourth.
Frazer Brice earned the win for Wanneroo, giving up one hit over four scoreless innings, striking out three and walking none. Tom Bailey got the save. Zane Morrison opened the game for Giants, giving up one hit and two runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking one.
Rams starter Kodai Kombara gave up three hits and two runs over four innings, striking out four and walking four. Vinnie Tarantola took the loss for Rockingham. The lefty went four innings, giving up one run on three hits, striking out seven and walking none.
Armstrong and Adam Barbarich were a force together in the lineup, each collecting two hits for Wanneroo. Armstrong provided pop in the middle of the lineup, leading the team with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-4 on the day.
Chris Proctor and Ellis Deakin each collected one hit for Rockingham. Nichols and Jacques Langford each drove in one run for Rockingham while the defense turned a double play. Rams were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Proctor made the most plays with 13.
Morley, South Perth – Game Called Due to Rain
Before the rain delay, Aaron Bonomi hit a triple on the third pitch of his leadoff at-bat. South Perth pitcher Jake Bowey struck out the next two batters before Bonomi scored on a wild pitch and Ulrich Bojarski walked.
Kieren Hall had a 1-2-3 inning on the mound for Morley to keep Braves off the board in the first.
The rain delay came in the top of the second inning.
Victoria Park Belmont, Perth – Game Called Due to Rain
With strong pitching on both sides, this was a close matchup although Vic Park Belmont pulled in front 2-0 before the rain delay. Reds took the lead on Ryan Boyer’s 2-run homer to left field.
Logan Warkentin started the game for Vic Park Belmont while Jake White threw first for Perth. Neither had any walks or strikeouts.
Jalen McGee went 1-for-1 at the plate to lead Perth in hits.
