We had another big weekend of baseball as the 2024/25 Harcher State League continued with wins for South Perth, Carine, Morley, Rockingham, Wanneroo, and Braves. Braves, Wanneroo, Morley, and Rockingham make up the top four so far.

South Perth 9, Gosnells Hawks 4
Craig Saupold drove in four runs on three hits to lead South Perth past Gosnells Hawks 9-4 on Friday at Empire Ballpark. Saupold doubled in the first inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the third inning, scoring one.
A single by Brett Walters extended the South Perth lead to 4-2 in the top of the second inning. They added five runs on five hits in the third. Kane Cole, Caleb Goodwin, Oliver McMahon, and Saupold hit RBI singles while Walters had a sacrifice fly.
Tysaac Noland earned the win for South Perth. The hurler gave up four hits and four runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out six and walking eight.
Jason Armstrong took the loss for Gosnells. The pitcher went two innings, giving up four runs on five hits, striking out two and walking three.
South Perth piled up 11 hits in the game. Jaxon Limpus and McMahon each collected multiple hits while McMahon and Naoto Hanawa took two free passes each with six walks overall.
Lee Wisby, Robin Adamson, Tim Leitch, and Sam Freedman each collected one hit for Gosnells. Jarrod McKay, Taj Varga, and Leitch each drove in one run for Gosnells.
Hawks had a strong eye at the plate, tallying eight walks with two apiece for Ryan Smith and Wisby.
Carine Cats 6, South Perth Souths 5
Carine took down South Perth 6-5 on Sunday at Collins Oval. Cats opened scoring in the top of the first when Tim Holmes hit an RBI double.
South Perth tied it up in the bottom of the first thanks to a single by Oliver McMahon and a fielder’s choice by Brett Walters. Carine took up the tie when Carlos Salas doubled in the second, scoring one run. A fielder’s choice by Holmes extended the lead to 4-2.
Jaxon Limpus hit a home run to left field to give South Perth a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the second. It didn’t last long as Carine’s Marcus Strother homered to left field, tying it up at five in the third.
Carine took the lead in the top of the fifth as Jordan Power grounded out, scoring a run to make it 6-5.
Holmes earned the win for Carine, giving up zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking two. Conor Lourey started the game, giving up seven hits and five runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking three.
Caleb Goodwin took the loss for South Perth. The reliever went two innings, giving up one run on one hit, striking out two and walking two. Starter Joseph Ranford gave up seven hits and five runs over three innings, striking out four and walking one.
Power threw three innings of shutout ball for Carine in relief. The hurler gave up zero hits, striking out six and walking none.
Carine tallied 11 hits in the game. Strother, Cooper McDonnell, Salas, Brendan Heath, and Holmes each collected two hits. Holmes had two runs batted in as the shortstop went 2-for-4 on the day. The defense turned two double plays in the game.
Limpus and Walters each collected two hits for South Perth. Limpus led the side with three runs batted in on a 2-for-4 day and also stole two bases.
Morley Eagles 8, Victoria Park Belmont Reds 7
It came down to the wire on Sunday at Crimea Park as Morley grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, winning 8-7 over Victoria Park Belmont. The game was tied at seven in the bottom of the ninth when Joshua Silvi tripled, scoring one run.
Both teams had their chances in the game, but eventually, Morley took the lead thanks to a triple in the ninth inning.
Morley got on board in the second inning after Alex Hall hit a sacrifice fly, scoring two runs. Reds tied it up in the top of the third thanks to a double by Matthew Goetzmann and a single by Taiyo Kurosawa.
A base hit by Ulrich Bojarski gave Morley a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Reds made it 4-3 their next time up on singles by Kurosawa and Sean Garratt.
Morley captured a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth after Silvi tripled down the right field line and Aaron Bonomi hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
Reds took the lead 7-6 in the top of the ninth on singles by Garratt and Ryan Boyer. Morley was right there, retaking the lead in the bottom of the ninth after Brandon Migro singled to right field and Silvi tripled to left field, each scoring one run.
Brendan Sing earned the win for Morley. The hurler allowed three hits and two runs (one earned) over one inning with no walks or strikeouts.
Riley Marsh took the loss for Vic Park Belmont. The hurler went three and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on three hits, striking out one and walking one.
Warwick Saupold led things off on the hill for Morley. He gave up four hits and two runs over four innings, striking out six and walking none. Raleigh Pelkonen tossed one and one-third innings of shutout ball, giving up zero hits and one walk.
Will Shiea started on the hill for Vic Park, giving up six hits and five runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking four.
Morley tallied nine hits in the game. Silvi led Morley with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The second baseman went 2-for-5 on the day while Bojarski, Silvi, and Mitch Graham each collected two hits. Eagles turned one double play, too.
Reds tallied 13 hits as Garratt went 4-for-5 and Joshua Cosgrove went 2-for-4. The defense had a double play as well.
Rockingham Rams 10, Perth 4
Chris Proctor hit three home runs and drove in five as Rockingham Rams defeated Perth 10-4 on Sunday at Hourglass Reserve. His home runs came in the first, third, and fourth innings.
Perth was first on the board when Dylan Bojarski hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run in the opening frame. Rockingham took the lead in the bottom of the first on Proctor’s two-run homer.
Bojarski grounded out, helping Perth tie it up at two in the top of the third. In the bottom half, Proctor’s solo home run broke the tie. A single by Corbin Todd followed to extend the lead to 4-2.
Proctor homered to center field, scoring two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Rams tacked on four more with three hits in the sixth. Ellis Deakin hit a solo home run, Ashton Crouch singled, scoring one run, and Jordano Vivona induced Jesse Sequeira to hit into a fielder’s choice but one run scored. Joshua Diggins hit a sacrifice fly to score one more.
Bojarski’s solo home run helped Perth get one back in the seventh.
Kodai Kombara earned the win for Rockingham, giving up four hits and two runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking three.
Jake White took the loss for Perth. The starter went two and one-third innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits, striking out none and walking one.
Vinnie Tarantola tossed one and one-third innings of scoreless ball for Rockingham in relief, giving up one hit, striking out one and walking one.
Rams tallied 12 hits in the game. Deakin and Proctor were a force together in the lineup, both collecting three hits. Diggins and Crouch had two hits apiece.
Bojarski provided pop in the middle of the lineup, leading Perth with three runs batted in. The first baseman went 1-for-4 on the day. Benjamin Nesbit led the side with three hits in four at-bats from the leadoff position. Perth’s defence turned two double plays.
Wanneroo Giants 2, Swan Districts 1
Both teams were strong on the mound on Sunday as Wanneroo defeated Swan Districts 2-1. Tom Bailey started the game for Giants and recorded six outs.
Wanneroo was first on the board in the fourth when Quinn Fatai singled, scoring one run.
Bailey stepped on the hill first for Wanneroo, giving up one hit over two scoreless innings with no walks and two strikeouts. Zane Morrison pitched three innings of no-run ball in relief, giving up zero hits, striking out four, and walking one.
Dillian Clarkson stepped on the bump first for Swan Districts. The lefty surrendered 11 hits and two runs over six innings, striking out three and walking two.
Wanneroo tallied 12 hits in the game. Number eight hitter Fatai showed the depth of the lineup by leading with three hits in four at-bats.
Adam Barbarich and Fatai each drove in one run for Wanneroo. Ethan Cooper and Henry Schineller each collected multiple hits while the defense turned a double play. Giants didn’t make any errors as Courtney Jones had the most plays with nine.
Michael De Gasperis led Swans with one run batted in while Landen Barns and Andrew Cromwell also had hits. The defense turned two double plays with no errors in the game. Cromwell had six chances in the field, the most on the team.
Braves 14, UWA Magpies 2
James Smibert collected three hits in five at-bats as Braves defeated UWA Magpies 14-2 on Sunday at McGillivray Oval. Smibert had base hits in the first and fourth innings before a home run to right field in the sixth.
Braves got on board in the top of the first after Tim Kennelly tripled, scoring two runs, and Sam Kennelly singled, scoring one run.
UWA Magpies scored two runs in the bottom of the first on a home run to center field by Nick Alexiou on an 0-2 count.
Braves added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Joel Beches hit a sacrifice fly and Kennelly singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Braves added three more runs in the top of the sixth on two hits. Madoka Honjo induced Beches to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, and Smibert homered to right field, scoring two runs.
Tucker Smith stepped on the hill first for Braves. He allowed five hits and two runs over four innings, striking out six and walking none. Todd Hatcher, Kennelly, and Mitch Neunborn each threw scoreless innings in relief.
Riley Hall started for UWA Magpies, giving up 11 hits and 11 runs (nine earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking four.
Braves piled up 15 hits in the game. Geoff Kerr, Kennelly, and Smibert each collected three hits. Beches went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with four runs batted in.
Braves were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Kevin Clark had the most chances with six.
Alexiou provided pop in the middle of the lineup, leading UWA Magpies with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-2 on the day. The team picked up a double play on defense, too.
