It was another epic night for women’s baseball at Empire Ballpark as Carine Cats and Kalamunda Rangers faced off. Week 8 of the Women’s Elite Series saw Carine secure a second victory going into a doubleheader on 11 Dec with Cats and Braves followed by Kalamunda and Wanneroo.

Carine Cats 12, Kalamunda Rangers 1
Carine Cats defeated Kalamunda Rangers 12-1 on Wednesday at Empire Ballpark thanks in part to nine runs in the sixth inning.
Tiah Hope singled, scoring one run, Molly Finch drew a walk, scoring one run, Bree Wright drew a walk, scoring one run, Sharna Trigg induced Taylor Bell to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, an error scored two runs, Leah McDonough drew a walk, scoring one run, and Briah Burke singled, scoring two runs.
An error put Kalamunda on the board in the bottom of the third. Carine took the lead, 3-1, in the top of the fifth thanks to singles by Burke, and Phoebe Stawarz.
Mylie Watt earned the win for Carine. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and one run (zero earned) over four innings, striking out six and walking one.
Burke threw two innings of zero-run ball for Carine in relief, giving up one hit, striking out five and walking three.
Aimee Martin took the loss for Kalamunda. The reliever went three and one-third innings, surrendering five runs on eight hits, striking out four and walking three.
Torrance Parry stepped on the mound first for Rangers. The right-handed pitcher surrendered one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking two.
Carine tallied 10 hits in the game. Hope, Stawarz, Finch, and Burke each collected two hits. Stawarz and Burke were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs. Chloe Scott paced Cats with three walks and overall the team took 12 bases on balls. Hope, Elodie O’Sullivan, Bell, Scott, McDonough, and Burke each stole multiple bases for Carine with 19 total in the game.
Trigg led Kalamunda with one run batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Trigg, Alicia Curtis, and Shannon Barnden each collected one hit while Jade Henwood stole two bases. Rangers had four stolen bases in the game while the defense turned one double play.
