Elimination Final: Wanneroo Giants 1, Carine Cats 0
Tal Tardrew threw a shutout to lead Wanneroo Giants past Carine Cats 1-0 on Friday at NSR Hire Ballpark in the elimination final.
Both teams were strong on the mound. Wanneroo pitchers struck out 14, while Carine sat down 11.
Giants opened scoring in the sixth after Cooper Barber singled, bringing home one run.
Conor Lourey took the loss for Carine. The starting pitcher went seven innings, giving up one run on six hits, striking out nine and walking none.
Harry Wooden, Maxim Fullerton, Nicholas Riley, Jacob Santich, Barber, Byron Armstrong, and Chayce Benseman each collected one hit for Wanneroo. Barber led with one run batted in as the third baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. The defense didn’t commit a single error in the field as Daniel Stephenson had the most chances with 15.
Carlos Salas led Carine with one hit in three at-bats. The defense turned one double play.
Semi-Final 1 Game 1: Morley Eagles 5, Wanneroo Giants 2
Morley Eagles topped Wanneroo Giants 5-2 on Tuesday at NSR Hire Ballpark in Semi-Final 1. Morley got on board in the third inning after Nick Ultsch singled, scoring two runs.
Kane Silvi earned the win for Morley. The starting pitcher surrendered six hits and two runs over five and one-third innings, striking out four and walking one.
Tom Bailey took the loss for Wanneroo. The hurler went five and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits, striking out six and walking three.
Warwick Saupold collected the save. Brendan Sing, Kieran Hall, and Lochlan Southee each threw scoreless innings for Morley in relief.
Ultsch provided pop in the middle of the lineup, leading Morley with two runs batted in as the outfielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Leadoff hitter Aaron Bonomi led with two hits in four at-bats. The defense turned one double play in the game and was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error as Cameron Bahr made the most plays with 11.
Jacob Santich and Jake Turnbull each collected two hits for Wanneroo with an RBI.
Semi-Final 1 Game 2: Morley Eagles 11, Wanneroo Giants 7
Nick Ultsch hit two home runs and drove in five as Morley Eagles defeated Wanneroo Giants 11-7 on Thursday at NSR Hire Ballpark as Semi-Final 1 continued. Ultsch homered in the sixth and ninth innings.
Morley rallied for the victory despite trailing 6-0 in the third.
A sacrifice fly by Jacob Santich put Wanneroo on board in the bottom of the first. Giants scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning. Santich singled, scoring one run, and Maxim Fullerton hit a grand slam to right field.
Morley flipped the game on its head in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs on two hits to take the lead, 7-6. The biggest blow in the inning was a grand slam to center field by Ultsch.
Eagles added four more runs in the top of the ninth inning on four hits. Ultsch hit a solo home run to right field before Jess Williams singled, Cameron Bahr singled, and Ben Crook hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
Raleigh Pelkonen stepped on the hill first for Morley Eagles. The pitcher gave up five hits and six runs (five earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking two. Brendan Sing, Kieran Hall, and Warwick Saupold each came on in relief and shut down the Giants.
Tal Tardrew began the game for Wanneroo. The pitcher allowed six hits and five runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out nine and walking five.
Morley totaled 11 hits in the game. Williams and Ultsch each collected three hits while Bahr went 2-for-4. Matt Dixon and Mitch Graham led the team with two bases on balls each – nine total for Eagles.
Fullerton provided pop in the middle of the lineup, leading Wanneroo with four runs batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Byron Armstrong and Santich were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits while hitting back-to-back. The defense turned one double play.
Semi-Final 2 Game 1: Perth 4, Braves 3
Dylan Bojarski collected three hits in four at-bats, as Perth defeated Braves 4-3 on Wednesday at NSR Hire Ballpark in Semi-Final 2. Bojarski hit singles in the first and third innings before a solo home run to left field in the fifth.
Perth got on board in the bottom of the first inning after Bojarski singled down the right field line, Ben Nesbit walked, and Austin Moyle grounded into a double play, each scoring one run.
Bojarski hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the fifth for Perth. Kevin Clark hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the ninth for Braves.
Evan Rutckyj earned the win for Perth. The hurler allowed five hits and two runs over seven and one-third innings, striking out six and walking four. Jai Hewitt and Boston Foot each appeared in relief.
Matt Kennelly took the loss for Braves. The pitcher went five innings, surrendering four runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking two.
Perth accumulated nine hits in the game. Riley Oliphant collected two hits in four at-bats while the defense turned one double play.
Jake Bowey provided pop in the middle of the lineup, leading Braves with two runs batted in as the third baseman went 1-for-4 on the day. Yuto Okamura led Braves with two hits in five at-bats while Tim Kennelly had three of the team’s six walks. The defense turned one double play.
Semi-Final 2 Game 2: Braves 7, Perth 4
Tim Kennelly drove in four runs on two hits to lead Braves past Perth 7-4 on Friday at NSR Hire Ballpark. Kennelly hit a grand slam to left field in the sixth inning, helping Bravs rally for the win despite trailing 4-0 in the third.
A triple by Spencer Sarringar on an 0-2 count put Perth on board in the top of the first. They added two in the second when Jalen McGee doubled down the right field line on the sixth pitch of the at-bat, making the score 3-0.
A double by Austin Moyle extended the Perth lead to 4-0 in the top of the third inning.
Ben Drew homered to left field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth for Braves.
Tucker Smith earned the win for Braves. The starting pitcher surrendered nine hits and four runs (three earned) over nine innings, striking out seven and walking none.
Jake White took the loss for Perth. The righty went one-third of an inning, surrendering three runs on one hit, striking out none and walking two. Jai Hewitt stepped on the mound first, giving up five hits and three runs over five innings, striking out five and walking five.
Joel Beches and Kennelly each collected two hits for Braves. They had patience at the plate, totaling eight walks for the game. Kennelly and Matt Kennelly led the team with two bases on balls each.
Perth tallied nine hits in the game. McGee, Moyle, and Sarringar each collected two hits while McGee, Moyle, and Sarringar each drove in one run. The defense turned two double plays.
Semi-Final 2 Game 3: Braves 21, Perth 8
Tim Kennelly showed a strong eye at the plate on Saturday, walking five times while leading Braves to a 21-8 victory over Perth.
Bats blistered as Braves collected 19 hits and Perth tallied 15 in the high-scoring game.
Braves opened scoring in the top of the first when Jake Bowey singled, scoring two runs. A base hit by Bowey extended their lead to 7-0 in the second.
Perth tied the game in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a single by Travis McDonald and a sacrifice fly by Austin Moyle.
Braves flipped the game on its head in the top of the seventh, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 13-8. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Sam Kennelly that drove in two.
Kennelly homered to left field, scoring three runs in the top of the eighth for Braves. They added five runs on three hits in the ninth.
Bowey started the game for Braves. The pitcher allowed 10 hits and six runs (four earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out two and walking four. Todd Hatcher, Tucker Smith, and Kennelly each threw shutout innings in relief.
Braves collected 19 hits in the game. Kennelly led Braves with four hits in four at-bats. Bowey, Kevin Clark, Drew, and Yuto Okamura each collected multiple hits, while Kennelly took five of the team’s 14 walks.
Perth collected 15 hits in the game. Josh McGee drove the middle of the lineup, leading with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 4-for-5 on the day while Jalen McGee and Yuki Maeda also had multiple hits. They worked the count all day, collecting six walks while the defense made two double plays.
