Braves 13, Balcatta Bears 9
Dillon Best drove in four runs on four hits to lead Braves past Balcatta Bears 13-9 on Sunday at Frankland Park D2. Best hit RBI singles in the first, second, and fifth, plus a 2-RBI base bit in the third.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as Braves collected 10 hits and Balcatta Bears 12 in the high-scoring affair. Bears opened scoring in the first after Dylan Coyle singled, scoring one run.
Braves went back into the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Best singled to the left side of the infield, and Phil Hawke grounded out, each scoring one run. Balcatta made the score 4-2 in the top of the second after Fraser Clarke singled, scoring two runs, and an error scored one run.
Braves flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs on three hits to take the lead, 8-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a groundout by Robert Olivieri that drove in two.
Braves added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning when a dropped third strike scored one run, and Best singled, scoring two runs.
Balcatta scored five runs on two hits in the top of the sixth inning. Jake Stephenson homered to right field, scoring three runs, before Reece Clarke hit a sacrifice fly and Ashley Murchison grounded out, each scoring one.
Andrew Reid earned the win for Braves. The pitcher surrendered 12 hits and eight runs (seven earned) over five innings, striking out six and walking four. Best appeared in relief.
Clarke took the loss for Balcatta. The starter went five innings, giving up 13 runs (10 earned) on 10 hits, striking out three and walking five.
Braves collected 10 hits in the game, with multiple for Brett Edwards and Shaun Kurghan. Best and Billy Donovan each stole multiple bases with seven total, while the defense turned one double play.
Balcatta totaled 12 hits in the game. Clarke led with three hits in four at-bats from the leadoff position. Stephenson led with three runs batted in as the catcher went 2-for-3 on the day. Clarke and Stephenson each stole multiple bases with eight overall.
Carine Cats Grey 17, Roleystone 5
Carine Cats Grey defeated Roleystone 17-5 on Sunday at Millington Oval D4 thanks in part to 12 runs in the second inning. Corey Aurala grounded out, scoring one run, Jarrod Ross was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Paul Flanagan drew a walk, scoring one run. Ben Hoffman had a 2-RBI base hit, Brett Plummer singled, scoring one run, and Scott Plenderleith brought home another two on a single. A dropped third strike and two errors scored four more.
Carine got on the board in the first inning after Flanagan singled, scoring one run.
Roleystone scored five runs on five hits in the top of the fourth inning. Caleb Marentes hit a sacrifice fly and Dwayne Pycroft doubled, each scoring one run. Next, Andrew Drury doubled, scoring two runs, and Thomas Dickson singled, scoring one run.
Sean Quinlan earned the win for Carine. The reliever surrendered zero hits and zero runs over one-third of an inning, striking out one and walking two.
Jesse Scidone took the loss for Roleystone. The starting pitcher went one and two-thirds innings, giving up seven runs on two hits, striking out two and walking six.
Hoffman opened the game for Carine, giving up eight hits and five runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking two. Plummer collected the save.
Carine piled up 11 hits in the game. Plummer, Hoffman, and Plenderleith each collected two hits while Plenderleith and Aurala both drove in three runs. Cats had patience at the plate, tallying eight walks as Gabe Thomas and Ross led with two walks each. Thomas, Flanagan, and Ross each stole multiple bases with 10 total.
Roleystone piled up nine hits in the game. Dickson, Chad Stone, and Jayden Lee each collected two hits while Drury led with two runs batted in as the center fielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Roleystone turned one double play on defense.
Willetton Wildcats 19, Carine Cats Blue 7
Justin Pascoe drove in four runs on three hits to lead Willetton Wildcats past Carine Cats Blue 19-7 on Sunday at Kevin Langdon D3. Pascoe singled in the second scoring one, doubled in the third scoring two, and singled in the fifth scoring one.
Willetton got on the board in the top of the second inning after Pascoe singled, scoring one run, Brendan Clark doubled, scoring two runs, Travis Grigg doubled, scoring one run, and Glen Tovey singled, scoring one run.
Carine flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring seven runs on five hits to take the lead, 7-5. The biggest blow in the inning was an error that drove in two.
Willetton scored nine runs on six hits in the third to take the lead, 14-7. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Jonas Bowron on a full count that drove in two.
Wildcats scored five runs on seven hits in the top of the fifth inning. Sean Wright, Pascoe, and Bowron had RBI singles, Clark hit into a double play, but one run scored, and Geoff Otterman knocked in another on a base hit.
Tovey started the game for Willetton, allowing 10 hits and seven runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking none.
Mitchell Fragall began the game for Carine Blue. The starting pitcher surrendered 10 hits and 13 runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking four.
Willetton totaled 20 hits with three apiece for Scott Drew, Tovey, Pascoe, and David Wright. Clark and Pascoe each drove in four runs while Bowron and Grigg had two hits.
Carine tallied 10 hits in the game. Adam Melis set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading with three hits in four at-bats. Tyson Feist, Clayton Fragall, and Shaun Baker each drove in one run while the defense turned one double play.
