WA Women Open AWC Campaign on Day 1
Western Australia’s Women’s team opened their 2026 Australian Women’s Championship (AWC) campaign on Sunday, facing early challenges against strong Victoria and New South Wales sides at Melbourne Ballpark.
Game 1: Victoria Def. Western Australia 22–3
WA showed early intent, responding quickly after Victoria opened the scoring in the first inning.
Chloe Atkinson delivered with the bat to help level the game early, while Elodie O’Sullivan, Caitlin Eynon and Peyton Newman each drove in runs for WA.
Despite a competitive opening, Victoria capitalised across the middle innings to build momentum and pull away on the scoreboard.
WA collected hits through O’Sullivan, Eynon, Meaghan Haggart, Aislinn Morris, Bianca Ramsey and Atkinson, while also turning a double play in the field highlighting moments of execution despite the result.
Game 2: New South Wales Def. Western Australia 12–3
WA bounced back with a stronger showing against New South Wales, staying competitive through the early stages.
Atkinson again set the tone offensively, finishing with multiple hits, while Eynon contributed with a key extra-base hit and RBI to help WA stay within reach.
The game remained tight early, with WA matching NSW before the opposition extended their lead through the middle innings.
There were positive signs on the basepaths, with Aislinn Morris creating pressure and swiping multiple bases, while WA continued to generate scoring opportunities throughout the lineup.
