Baseball WA and the Perth Heat are proud to celebrate an extraordinary milestone for Western Australian baseball, with four WA athletes — Caitlin Eynon, Elodie O’Sullivan, Leah Cornish, and Chloe Atkinson — all selected in the 2025 Women’s Professional Baseball League (WPBL) Draft.
From thousands of female athletes around the world, shortening to 150 players trying out and submitted video applications to be included in the draft pool, all four WA representatives being selected is a remarkable achievement and a credit to the state’s women’s high-performance and competition pathways.
This year’s WA draftees were selected as follows:
- Caitlin Eynon — Round 3 (Los Angeles)
- Leah Cornish — Round 4 (Los Angeles)
- Elodie O’Sullivan — Round 5 (Los Angeles)
- Chloe Atkinson — Round 6 (New York)
Baseball WA CEO Lachlan Dale said these selections underscore the growing quality of WA’s female baseball pipeline.
“Four athletes from one state — out of a global pool of 150 prospects, is phenomenal. Caitlin, Leah, Elodie, and Chloe have shown that WA is emerging as a powerhouse in women’s baseball. Their dedication, resilience, and professionalism are inspiring a new generation of players.”
The Pathway Behind the Success
All four athletes progressed through the Baseball WA Women’s Performance and Competitions Pathways led by Andy Kyle, Kurt Russell and others, who have overseen their development over the years.
Russell, WA State Women’s Head Coach, praised the group’s work ethic:
“These young ladies are extremely hard-working, eager to learn, and deserve this opportunity.”
Player Perspective
Round 6 draftee Chloe Atkinson shared her excitement about the process:
“I submitted my video and was stoked just to get into the draft. To actually get selected was so great — and I ended up with the team with the best colour!”
A New Era for Women’s Professional Baseball
The 2025 WPBL Draft marks a historic moment for the sport, creating a professional pathway that athletes have long dreamed of.
Dale added:
“This is only the beginning. WA’s talent is world-class, and these four athletes have proven that the professional stage is well within reach. Baseball WA and the Perth Heat are committed to supporting the future of women’s baseball across the state.”
Baseball WA and the Perth Heat congratulate Caitlin Eynon, Leah Cornish, Elodie O’Sullivan, and Chloe Atkinson on their incredible achievements and look forward to following their professional journeys.
