Baseball WA is proud to recognise the outstanding performances and contributions across our community with the Harcher Monthly Awards for October.
The monthly awards recognise achievement both on and off the diamond, with the Local Player of the Month celebrating standout performances in local competition and the Volunteer of the Month recognising the people whose time, energy and commitment help make baseball possible across Western Australia.
Baseball WA sincerely thanks Harcher for its continued support of WA baseball and for helping us recognise the players and volunteers who make such an important contribution to our game.
Harcher Local Player of the Month – Fletcher Thomas, Willetton Baseball Club
Willetton Baseball Club A Grade player Fletcher Thomas is the Harcher Local Player of the Month following an outstanding start to the 2026/27 season.
Thomas made an impact both at the plate and on the mound throughout October.
Across 13 plate appearances, Thomas recorded seven hits from 10 at-bats for a .700 batting average and 2.169 OPS, including a double and two home runs while driving in five runs.
He was equally impressive on the mound, throwing six innings with six strikeouts and five hits allowed, recording a 2.30 ERA.
Congratulations to Fletcher on an outstanding month.
Harcher Volunteers of the Month
This month, Baseball WA also recognises a group of volunteers making valuable contributions across metropolitan and regional baseball, from Sporting Schools and participation programs to club administration, junior development and the continued growth of Little League T-Ball.
Brian Gray – Sporting Schools
Brian is a Baseball Coaching Certificate C holder who has made a strong contribution through Baseball WA’s Sporting Schools and community participation programs.
He has delivered tee-ball and baseball activities in schools, including Wilson Primary School, where the school provided very positive feedback about the quality of the coaching team, his enthusiasm, activities and ability to relate to the needs of students.
Brian has also supported community activation through the City of Armadale Multi-Sport program and has put his hand up to help deliver expanded Little League T-Ball programs across metropolitan Perth.
Most recently, he agreed to step into the Term 4 Sporting Schools program at Cannington Community College, delivering tee-ball progressing into machine pitch for Year 7/8 students.
Josh Morris – Regional Servicing Officer, Pilbara/Gascoyne
Josh has made a significant contribution to the development of baseball and diamond sports across the Pilbara and Gascoyne through his role as Baseball WA’s Regional Servicing Officer based in Karratha.
His work has included direct engagement with schools and local organisations in Karratha, including working with Baynton West around establishing Sporting Schools delivery, as well as supporting the broader regional club network and participation opportunities.
A major focus has been helping strengthen the pathway beyond tee-ball through Machine Pitch 70. Josh was directly involved in the work to bring MP70 back to the North West Championships in Exmouth, working with regional stakeholders on the planning, promotion and delivery of the program.
The 2025 MP70 initiative was designed to give players aged under 15, including those who had aged out of tee-ball, an opportunity to remain involved in diamond sports and experience baseball with a moving ball. Josh travelled to Exmouth for the North West Championships MP70 program and was actively involved in its delivery. He continued the evolution of MP70 with its inclusion as a formal division of this year’s North West Championships in Port Hedland.
That contribution has continued beyond the championships. Following Josh’s more recent work in Exmouth, Exmouth Tee Ball reported extremely positive feedback and said his efforts had given the club the confidence to establish MP70 themselves. The club subsequently moved towards launching its own MP70 training program and competition.
Josh has also been Baseball WA’s regional contact for community development opportunities in Exmouth, in addition to his local work from Karratha. His contribution has helped create a stronger link between tee-ball, machine pitch and baseball pathways across the region.
Kelly Wiersma – Carine Cats
Kelly is an experienced and qualified Carine Cats coach who has supported junior baseball both on and off the field.
She has held USA Baseball B and C coaching credentials and has assisted in ensuring coaching experience and accreditation information is provided through to Baseball WA.
Kelly has also remained actively involved in Carine’s junior baseball activities and school competition opportunities, helping create opportunities for young players to stay engaged in the game.
Mikayla Miller – Kambalda Tee Ball / Little League T-Ball
Mikayla has taken on a major leadership and organisational role with Kambalda’s Little League T-Ball program.
In her first year leading the program, she effectively took ownership of much of the behind-the-scenes work required to get the program up and running, coordinating registrations, player information, equipment, uniforms and liaison with Baseball WA.
When the registration system created difficulties, Mikayla found a practical way to keep registrations moving and maintained the player information needed to get the season underway.
Her work supported a Kambalda program with around 60 young participants and ensured players could receive their Little League T-Ball shirts, gloves and balls.
It is a great example of the work regional volunteers do behind the scenes to create opportunities for local kids.
Kelly Golding – Kardinya Red Sox Ball Club / Little League T-Ball
Kelly has made a long-standing contribution across tee-ball, junior baseball and girls’ participation.
As Treasurer at Kardinya Red Sox Ball Club, she played a hands-on role in establishing the club’s Little League T-Ball offering, working through the registration setup, club fees, equipment and program logistics.
That program accommodates up to 108 young participants and operates with a waitlist.
Kelly’s contribution extends well beyond Little League T-Ball, with previous involvement in girls’ baseball initiatives, including Pony Girls, as well as broader tee-ball planning and junior baseball administration.
She has consistently been one of those volunteers willing to take on the detailed work that allows participation programs to operate successfully.
Tahnee Mears – Byford Bushrangers
Tahnee is the Registrar at Byford Bushrangers and has been heavily involved in the club’s implementation of Little League T-Ball.
Her contribution has included managing registrations, following up families to ensure participants complete the required GameDay process, working through the program setup and helping coordinate specific promotion of Little League T-Ball through the club’s social channels.
She has been involved across both the initial year of the program and its continuation into 2026, providing the important administrative support that turns interest from families into actual participation opportunities for young players.
Jenny Alpike – Morley Eagles / Fuel to Go & Play Champion
Jenny has made an outstanding contribution to Morley Eagles through her commitment to the club’s canteen, events and healthy eating initiatives.
She regularly gives up significant amounts of her time, often spending up to 12 hours in the canteen on weekends while continually looking for ways to improve the experience for the baseball community.
Jenny has embraced the Healthway Healthy Canteen initiative by introducing new menu ideas, supporting Thursday night club dinners and helping with club events. She also developed a successful water donation initiative that resulted in more than 80 cartons being donated by junior families.
Much of Jenny’s work happens behind the scenes, but her care for the club and its people is evident in everything she does. Her time, energy and willingness to go above and beyond make her an invaluable part of the Morley Eagles community.
Congratulations to Fletcher and all of our Harcher Volunteer of the Month recipients.
From outstanding performances on the diamond to the countless hours contributed behind the scenes, these awards celebrate some of the people helping baseball continue to grow and thrive across Western Australia.
Baseball WA once again thanks Harcher for its support of the Harcher Monthly Awards and its ongoing commitment to recognising the people who make our game possible.
