Baseball WA invites eligible athletes to trial for the WA Pathways – Rising Stars Development Program and Rising Stars Futures Program.
These programs form part of the FTEM Model (T2) and underpin BWA’s Performance Pathway. Both programs have limited positions, with selections based on trial performance and input from BWA’s Performance Pathways Coaches.
- Development (2009 & 2010 DOB) Trial: Tuesday 24 March
- Futures (2011 & 2012 DOB) Trial: Wednesday 1 April
These programs provide a structured training environment to assist in building tools and preparing players who are emerging into, or of state level capacity. These underpinning programs are also used to talent identify potential performance athletes.
BWA has a long history of producing talented baseball players and assisting them on their journey. Major League, Minor League, college and national representatives began their careers through these platforms locally in Perth.
Rising Stars Development Program
Eligibility: Athletes born in 2009–2010 (16–17 years old)
We are seeking athletes who demonstrate a high level of skill, strong commitment to development, and emerging/potential state team capability.
The program focuses on developing baseball-specific movement patterns, tactical and strategic game understanding, strength and conditioning, and alignment with Team Australia and BWA performance foundations.
Rising Stars Futures Program
Eligibility: Athletes born in 2011–2012 (14–15 years old)
We are seeking athletes who show strong foundational skills, commitment to development, and emerging/potential state team capability. The program mirrors the Development Program in its focus on baseball-specific movement, tactical and strategic development, strength and conditioning, and alignment with national and state performance frameworks.
Program Delivery
Both programs will be delivered by BWA Pathways Coaches in partnership with Diamond High Performance, who will lead the strength and conditioning component.

Development Program Trials
Date: Tuesday 24 March
Location: NSR Hire Ballpark (Cnr Nicholson Rd & Wilfred Ave, Thornlie)
Time: 5:30pm – 7:30pm
Futures Program Trials
Date: Wednesday 1 April
Location: NSR Hire Ballpark (Cnr Nicholson Rd & Wilfred Ave, Thornlie)
Time: 5:30pm – 7:30pm
Trial Format
Athletes will complete a series of baseball-specific assessments, which may include:
- 10m and 40yd sprint testing
- Arm speed
- Bat speed / bat-to-ball metrics
- Defensive fielding evaluation
- Bullpen assessment
Athletes must bring appropriate clothing, footwear, and all relevant equipment.
If Selected
Successful athletes will be offered a position in the program, which includes:
Program Duration: 12 weeks – Term 2
Program Components
Return-to-Throw Program Provided and S&C Introduction – 2 weeks
On-field training (10 weeks)
- Futures: Wednesdays 5-7 pm, Sat 8.30am-10.30am
- Development: Wednesdays 6.30pm-8.30pm, Sat 10.00am-12.00pm
- Program dates: 6 May – 11 July
- Focus areas: Arm development, batting, baserunning, game-speed development, defense, and gameplay
Strength & Conditioning (12 weeks)
- 2 prescribed weight sessions per week
- Speed and agility development delivered by Diamond High Performance
- Optional (recommended): ongoing programming with Diamond High Performance post-program can be purchased for long-term development
Performance evaluation & data collection
Athlete development workshops – goal setting, nutrition, and related topics
Program Costs
- Program Fee: $800 per athlete (includes $200 upfront deposit)
- Rising Stars Uniform: $180 (Hat, Shirt, Shorts) – purchased through Belgravia
