George Dickinson was one of the best pitchers in Australia during his era. As most players did during the early days, George played many different positions and was a damaging player at the plate and in the field as well as on the mound.
Dickinson served his local club Perth well throughout his career helping the side to successive premierships in 1949 and 1950. He was also awarded life membership of the club for his contributions both on and off the field.
Dickinson recorded an earned run average of 0.82 over an eight-year period where he earned a 38-14 win-loss record in the WA State League. On average, he would strike out 8.5 batters for every nine innings pitched and would rarely give up a walk.
During World War II he would continue to play baseball against US service teams in the eastern states when stationed at RAAF bases. Dickinson pitched a 1-0 shutout against a visiting South Australian team in Kalgoorlie in 1946 – a visit that foreshadowed local baseball to start again post-war in Western Australia.
