It was a big weekend in Harcher State League with UWA Magpies, Wanneroo, Braves, South Perth, Morley, and Vic Park Belmont securing wins to bolster their second-half campaigns. Wanneroo, Braves, Morley, and Vic Park make up the Top 4 at this stage.

UWA Magpies 12, Gosnells Hawks 3
Michael Albertini collected three hits in four at-bats as UWA Magpies defeated Gosnells Hawks 12-3 on Friday at Empire Ballpark. Albertini doubled in the first inning, singled in the second and singled again in the fourth.
UWA Magpies got on the board in the top of the first inning after Joris Van Ballegooy doubled, scoring one run, Bass Cooper doubled, scoring another, and Albertini doubled for an RBI. Bradley Tate wrapped things up with a 2-RBI single.
UWA Magpies added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Albertini singled, Jake Wilson singled, and Tate hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
Nick Alexiou stepped on the bump first for UWA Magpies. The right-handed pitcher gave up three hits and three runs (zero earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking two.
Sam Forrest started on the mound for Gosnells. He gave up four hits and five runs over one inning, striking out three and walking two.
UWA Magpies piled up 14 hits in the game. Albertini and Van Ballegooy each collected three hits while Tate led the way with three RBI from the number seven spot in the lineup. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Cooper, Willson, and Eita Samukawa each collected multiple hits.
Louis Scaramella, Lee Wisby, and Calvin Butler each collected one hit for Gosnells. Scaramella and Wisby each drove in one run while Maclin Berry stole two bases. Hawks turned one double play in the game.
UWA Magpies will aim to make it a three-game win streak at Carine on Sunday.
Wanneroo Giants 5, South Perth Souths 1
Wanneroo Giants beat South Perth Souths 5-1 on Friday at Empire Ballpark.
Wanneroo took advantage of a wild pitch to get on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Jacob Santich and Jackson Riley singled, each scoring a run, while an error brought home another.
Rob Sorensen earned the win for Wanneroo. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and one run over five innings, striking out four and walking two.
Jai Hewitt took the loss for South Perth. The starting pitcher went three and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs (two earned) on five hits, striking out six and walking two.
Callum Schipp pitched two innings of scoreless ball for Wanneroo in relief. The right-handed pitcher surrendered zero hits, striking out three and walking two.
Ethan Cooper and Riley each collected two hits for Wanneroo. Cooper, Riley, Santich, and Daniel Bourke each drove in one run while Riley had two of the team’s six stolen bases.
Simon Baumer, Adam Barbarich, Cameron Landy, and Lyndan Morgan each collected one hit for South Perth. Landy led the team with one run batted in, going 1-for-3 as the number three hitter.
Braves 1, Carine Cats 0
Todd Hatcher struck out 11 batters as they led Braves past Carine Cats 1-0 on Sunday at Frankland Park. Hatcher gave up two hits and zero runs over seven innings while walking five.
Braves didn’t take the lead until later in the game. It was tied at zero in the bottom of the fifth when Kevin Clark singled, scoring one run.
Conor Lourey took the loss for Carine. The starting pitcher went six innings, giving up one run on two hits, striking out six and walking six.
Clark and James Smibert were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for Braves.
Clark went 1-for-1 at the plate as the third baseman led the team with one run batted in.
Braves had patience at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. Clark and Joel Beches had two walks apiece while the defense was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Cody Parkinson had the most chances with 11.
Cas Silber and Josh Molen each collected one hit for Carine. Carlos Salas made the most plays with six on an error-free day for Cats.
Braves 4, Carine Cats 0
Braves defeated Carine Cats 4-0 in the second game of the doubleheader at Frankland Park. Braves got on the board in the second inning after Nicholas Davis doubled, scoring two runs.
Campbell Froude earned the win, giving up three hits over seven scoreless innings with five strikeouts and one walk.
Tim Robinson took the loss for Carine. The starting pitcher went four innings, giving up two runs on four hits, striking out two and walking two.
Geoff Kerr, Josh Kennelly, Cody Parkinson, and Davis each collected one hit for Braves. Davis led the team with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The outfielder went 1-for-3 on the day.
Brendan Heath, Conor Lourey, and Samuel Gooch each collected one hit for Carine. Heath stole two bases.
Braves will travel to Gosnells for their next game on Saturday as Carine hosts UWA Magpies on Sunday.
Morley Eagles 12, Rockingham Rams 0
Sam Abbott drove in four runs on two hits to lead Morley Eagles past Rockingham Rams 12-0 on Sunday at Hourglass Reserve. Abbott homered to right field in the fourth to score three runs and hit an RBI single in the ninth.
Troy Cruz started things off strong for Morley as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Morley pitchers walked two on the way to victory.
Eagles opened the scoring in the third after Aaron Bonomi hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
Four more Morley runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 5-0. Abbott homered to right field, scoring three runs, and Bonomi singled, scoring one run.
Cruz started on the bump for Morley, giving up five hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking none.
Brock Molloy began the game for Rockingham. He gave up eight hits and five runs over four innings, striking out six and walking one.
Brendan Sing and Lachlan Waite each threw scoreless innings in relief for Morley.
Eagles racked up 20 hits in the game, with Reece Thompson leading the way going 4-for-6. Matt Dixon, George Calverley, Bonomi, Cody Nicholas, and Mitch Power each collected multiple hits.
Morley’s defense was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Thompson had the most chances with nine.
Joshua Diggins, David Nichols, Vinnie Tarantola, Lachlan Cahill, and Darryl Artis each collected one hit for Rockingham.
Next up for Morley is a game at Vic Park Belmont while Rockingham hosts Perth on Sunday.
South Perth Souths 14, Gosnells Hawks 8
Jai Hewitt drove in four runs on two hits to lead South Perth Souths past Gosnells Hawks 14-8 on Sunday at Tom Bateman Sporting Complex Reserve. Hewitt hit a home run to right field in the seventh inning, scoring two runs, and doubled in the eighth inning, scoring two more.
Bats blistered as South Perth collected 16 hits and Gosnells tallied six in the high-scoring game.
Souths got on the board in the top of the second inning after Adam Barbarich doubled, scoring one run, and Caleb Goodwin singled, scoring another. Daniel Atkinson followed up with an RBI single, and next was Simon Baumer with an RBI on a sacrifice fly. An error scored another run before Brett Walters wrapped up the inning with a 2-RBI double.
Cameron Landy homered to center field in the fourth, scoring two more runs for South Perth. They added two more in the seventh on Hewitt’s home run.
Goodwin stepped on the hill first for South Perth. He allowed four hits and six runs (five earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking five.
Gosnells starter Riley Hall allowed eight hits and nine runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking one.
Baumer pitched two innings of scoreless ball for South Perth in relief with no hits, just one walk and three strikeouts.
South Perth piled up 16 hits in the game. Walters and Atkinson each collected three hits while Goodwin and Baumer had two apiece. Landy and Jaxon Limpus each stole multiple bases as the team had five stolen bases for the game.
Calvin Butler provided pop in the middle of the lineup, leading Gosnells with two runs batted in. The right fielder went 2-for-4 on the day.
Butler and Jamie each collected two hits while the team also had a strong eye at the plate, piling up eight walks. Jarrod McKay, Lee Wisby, and Jack Burt led the way with two free passes each. Gosnells stole four bases, too.
Gosnells hosts Braves this Saturday while South Perth’s next game is 3 Feb vs. Carine.
Victoria Park Belmont 2, Swan Districts Swans 0
Mizuki Akatsuka threw a shutout to lead Victoria Park Belmont past Swan Districts Swans 2-0 on Sunday at Charlie Hodder Baseball Field.
Pitching was strong on both sides. Vic Park Belmont pitchers struck out 11 while Swan Districts sat down eight.
Reds were the first on the board in the fifth when Cameron Liss induced Eddie Satisky to hit into a fielder’s choice, but two runs scored.
Liss led things off on the mound for Swans. The righty surrendered two hits and two runs over six innings, striking out seven and walking five.
Taiyo Kurosawa went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Reds in hits. Satisky drove the middle of the lineup, leading Vic Park Belmont with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 1-for-4 on the day.
Josh Paull stole two bases as the Reds practiced patience at the plate, tallying six walks for the game.
Michael De Gasperis and Conor Parry each collected one hit for Swan Districts. They turned one double play and were sure-handed in the field with no errors. Brody Clarkson made the most plays with nine.
Vic Park Belmont welcomes Morley on Sunday for their next game while Swans host a doubleheader vs. Wanneroo.
Wanneroo Giants 9, Perth 4
Courtney Jones collected three hits in five at-bats as Wanneroo Giants defeated Perth 9-4 on Sunday at Inglewood Oval. Jones singled in the second, fifth, and seventh innings.
Wanneroo got on the board in the top of the third after Byron Armstrong doubled and Ben King singled, each scoring a run.
Giants starter Jay Bullingham allowed three hits and one run over three innings, striking out one and walking two.
Frazer Brice pitched four innings in relief for Wanneroo. The reliever gave up three hits and zero runs while striking out two and walking one.
Peter Reyes started the game for Perth. He surrendered one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking one.
Wanneroo piled up nine hits in the game. Daniel Bourke and Armstrong each collected multiple hits.
Giants had a strong eye at the plate with nine walks, including two apiece for King and Armstrong.
Wanneroo turned one double play in an error-free game as Jones made the most plays with 12.
Perth collected 10 hits in the game with two apiece for Kaine Newham, Jordano Vivona, and Benjamin Nesbit. Vivona led with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. He went 2-for-4 on the day.
Perth’s defense turned two double plays.
Wanneroo will travel to Swan Districts this Sunday for a doubleheader while Perth heads to Rockingham.
