South Perth Souths 13, UWA Magpies 1
South Perth Souths defeated UWA Magpies 13-1 on Wednesday night at Empire Ballpark thanks in part to nine runs in the fifth inning.
South Perth was first on the board when Jai Hewitt hit an RBI single in the opening frame.
Bass Cooper singled for UWA Magpies to tie it at one in the bottom of the first.
Souths broke up the tie in the top of the third when Cameron Landy doubled, scoring one run. A walk by Hewitt followed to extend the lead to 3-1.
South Perth scored nine runs on three hits in the top of the fifth. Oliver McMahon and Daniel Atkinson both drew bases-loaded walks before an error brought home another run. Jake Bowey singled, scoring two runs, and Landy doubled to score two more. Hewitt’s groundout and Caleb Goodwin’s walk scored the last two runs of the inning.
Brett Walters earned the win for South Perth. The reliever gave up zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out one and walking none.
Henry Kellen took the loss for UWA Magpies, going two innings with two runs allowed on three hits. He walked two with no strikeouts.
Kodai Hamaya stepped on the bump first for UWA Magpies. The left-handed pitcher surrendered two hits and one run (zero earned) over one inning, striking out one and walking none.
Hewitt started the game for South Perth, allowing four hits and one run over four innings, striking out three and walking one.
Cooper led UWA Magpies with two hits in two at-bats.
South Perth accumulated nine hits in the game. Walters went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits. Landy and Bowey each drove in three runs while Atkinson took three of the team’s 10 walks. Landy had two of their four stolen bases as the defense turned one double play in the game.
Swan Districts Swans 7, Rockingham Rams 1
The bottom of the lineup helped Swan Districts Swans capture a 7-1 victory over Rockingham Rams on Friday night at Empire Ballpark. Conor Parry, Ashton Hamilton, and Dustin Brown combined for five of the team’s 10 hits in the victory. They scored four runs and drove in one.
Swan Districts won thanks in part to four runs in the fourth inning. An error scored two runs and Maverick Hamilton doubled, scoring two more.
Rockingham opened the scoring in the first after Jesse Sequeira singled, scoring one run.
Michael De Gasperis hit into a fielder’s choice, which helped Swan Districts Swans tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.
In the bottom of the second, Swan Districts broke up the tie with Parry’s RBI single. Hamilton had a base hit to extend the lead to 3-1.
Dillian Clarkson stepped on the bump first for Swan Districts. The southpaw surrendered six hits and one run over seven innings, striking out one and walking two.
Brock Molloy started on the hill for Rockingham. He allowed nine hits and seven runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking one.
Braves 5, Perth 1
Braves bested Perth 5-1 on Sunday at Inglewood Oval. Perth got on board in the first inning after Tucker Smith induced Benjamin Nesbit to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.
In the top of the third inning, Braves went back into the lead after Joel Beches singled and Matt Kennelly doubled, each scoring one run.
Smith stepped on the mound first for Braves. He gave up three hits and one run over five innings, striking out eight and walking none.
Todd Hatcher threw two innings of zero-run ball for Braves in relief. The reliever surrendered one hit, striking out three and walking none.
Brian (Tanner) Jessen-Dalton stepped on the bump first for Perth. They surrendered nine hits and five runs (two earned) over six innings, striking out eight and walking three.
Braves tallied 10 hits in the game. Kennelly, Beches, and Liam Collins each collected two hits while Kevin Clark drove the middle of the lineup with 2 RBIs on a 1-for-4 day.
Braves didn’t commit a single error in the field as Geoff Kerr had the most chances with 10.
Jake White, Jessen-Dalton, Kai Bancesco, and Jalen McGee each collected one hit for Perth. Nesbit led the team with one run batted in as the defense turned one double play.
Perth 7, Braves 2
Brady Oliphant collected three hits in three at-bats as Perth defeated Braves 7-2 on Sunday at Inglewood Oval. Oliphant singled in the third, fifth, and sixth innings.
Braves scored in the top of the first when James Smibert hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
Jalen McGee doubled, which helped Perth tie the game at two in the bottom of the fifth.
Perth flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on four hits to take a 7-2 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Ronald (Ronnie) Sweeny that drove in two.
Matteo Pizziconi earned the win for Perth. The reliever gave up one hit and zero runs over two and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one.
Matt Kennelly took the loss for Braves. He went five and one-third innings, giving up five runs on nine hits, striking out two and walking one.
Jake White started the game for Perth, giving up three hits and two runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking none.
Perth collected 11 hits in the game. Sweeny and McGee were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs. Jordano Vivona collected two hits for Perth in three at-bats.
Kennelly led Braves with two hits in three at-bats. Kevin Clark and Smibert were a one-two punch in the lineup, each driving in one run for Braves.
The defense turned one double play in the game and didn’t make any errors. Josh Kennelly had the most chances in the field with eight.
Perth will travel to Morley for their next game on Friday. Braves have a doubleheader at Swan Districts on Sunday.
Wanneroo Giants 3, Carine Cats 1
Both teams were strong on the hill on Sunday, but Wanneroo Giants defeated Carine Cats 3-1. Rob Sorensen started the game for Wanneroo and recorded 12 outs.
Wanneroo didn’t take the lead until later in the game. It was tied at one in the top of the sixth when Owen Pilcher homered to center field, scoring two runs.
Carine opened the scoring in the first after Josh Davies singled, scoring one run.
Jacob Santich singled to help Wanneroo tie the game at one in the top of the fourth.
Sorensen stepped on the hill first for Wanneroo, giving up five hits and one run over four innings with five strikeouts and a walk.
Carine starter Conor Lourey gave up five hits and three runs over six innings, striking out 10 and walking five.
Jacob Myer threw two innings of shutout ball for Wanneroo in relief. He didn’t give up any hits, striking out three and walking one.
Pilcher and Santich were a force together in the lineup, each collecting two hits for Wanneroo. Pilcher had two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup, going 2-for-3 on the day. Byron Armstrong stole two bases.
Josh Molen led Carine with two hits in three at-bats. Davies went 1-for-3 at the plate with one run batted in.
Wanneroo Giants 13, Carine Cats 6
Byron Armstrong drove in four runs on two hits to lead Wanneroo Giants past Carine Cats 13-6 in the second game of the doubleheader. He hit a home run to center field in the first inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the second, scoring another.
Wanneroo got on board in the top of the first with Armstrong’s home run and an RBI double by Courtney Jones.
They added to their early lead in the second with Armstrong’s base hit and a sacrifice fly by Jones.
Wanneroo scored five more on three hits in the top of the seventh. An error scored two runs before Jacob Santich smashed a three-run homer.
Giants starter Frazer Brice allowed nine hits and six runs over six innings, striking out three and walking one.
Jacob Stanton stepped on the bump first for Carine, giving up six hits and six runs over two innings, striking out one and walking three.
Tom Bailey pitched one inning of zero-run ball for Wanneroo in relief. The righty allowed zero hits, striking out one and walking none.
Wanneroo collected 13 hits in the game. Nicholas Riley led the team with four hits in five at-bats from the leadoff position. Jones and Armstrong each drove in four runs while Ethan Cooper went 2-for-3.
Giants had patience at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game. Ben King and Armstrong led the team with three bases on balls each. Riley stole two bases.
Wanneroo ran wild on the base paths, collecting five stolen bases while the defense didn’t make any errors. Jones made the most plays with 10.
Carine had nine hits in the game, with Cas Silber going 2-for-3 and Aden Browne knocking in three runs from the number eight spot in the lineup. The center fielder went 1-for-3 on the day.
Wanneroo hosts Gosnells this coming Sunday and Carine has a doubleheader vs. Rockingham.
Victoria Park Belmont 6, Gosnells Hawks 0
Mizuki Akatsuka struck out 11 batters as the starting pitcher led Victoria Park Belmont past Gosnells Hawks 6-0 on Sunday at Tom Bateman Sporting Complex Reserve. He gave up four hits and zero runs over six and two-thirds innings with no walks.
Reds won thanks in part to four runs in the fourth inning. Joshua Greenham singled, scoring one run, and Curtis Bacon doubled, scoring three runs.
Riley Hall led things off on the mound for Gosnells. The starting pitcher gave up five hits and four runs over four and one-third innings, striking out six and walking four.
Bacon led Vic Park Belmont with three runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The infielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Bacon and Greenham each collected two hits.
Robin Adamson led Gosnells with two hits in three at-bats. Gosnells turned one double play in the game.
Victoria Park Belmont 17, Gosnells Hawks 13
There were runs aplenty on Sunday at Tom Bateman Sporting Complex Reserve as Victoria Park Belmont took down Gosnells Hawks 17-13. Reds collected eight hits and Hawks had 11.
The bottom of the lineup was strong for Vic Park Belmont. Ben Warrington, Cody Van Der Graaf, and Scott Combs combined for five of the team’s eight hits in their victory. They scored two runs and drove in six.
Reds got on the board in the top of the first after Sean Garratt singled, scoring two runs, Jack Smalpage hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Van Der Graaf singled, scoring one more.
David Burgess homered to right field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second for Gosnells Hawks.
Vic Park scored five runs on one hit in the top of the fourth. Smalpage, Joshua Greenham, and Van Der Graaf drew a walk, scoring one run, and Combs singled, scoring two more.
Reds scored six runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning. Eddie Satisky drew a walk, scoring one run, Van Der Graaf singled, scoring one run, and Combs and Josh Paull hit 2-RBI doubles.
Vic Park’s Greenham hit a solo home run to center field in the top of the sixth.
Gosnells scored seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jamie White and Jack Burt had RBI singles while Louis Scaramella hit a 2-RBI double. Luke Houston grounded out to score a run and Sam Forrest hit a two-run homer to center field.
Mathew Martin started the game for Reds, giving up eight hits and 11 runs over five and one-third innings with three strikeouts and four walks. Paull pitched in relief.
Gosnells starter Tim Leitch allowed two hits and four runs over three innings, striking out one and walking two.
Number seven hitter Van Der Graaf showed the depth of Victoria Park’s lineup, going 3-for-5. Taiyo Kurosawa paced the team with four out of 15 total walks while the Reds stole six bases.
Gosnells collected 11 hits in the game with leadoff hitter Burt going 3-for-5. Scaramella drove the middle of the lineup, leading Gosnells with four runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. White collected two hits for Gosnells in four at-bats.
Victoria Park Belmont will travel to UWA Magpies for their next game on Friday. Gosnells heads to Wanneroo on Sunday.
Swan Districts Swans 4, South Perth Souths 3
It came down to the wire on Sunday as Swan Districts Swans walked it off 4-3 over South Perth Souths. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the ninth when Michael De Gasperis singled, scoring one run.
Cameron Liss struck out 10 batters on the day. The starting pitcher also surrendered three hits and one run over six innings while walking three.
South Perth Souths were first on the board when Jai Hewitt hit an RBI single in the opening frame.
Cameron Phelts singled, helping Swan Districts tie the game at one in the bottom of the fifth.
South Perth retook the lead in the top of the seventh after Adam Barbarich walked and a wild pitch was thrown, each scoring a run.
Anthony Daniele singled to tie the game at three in the bottom of the seventh.
Boston Foot earned the win for Swan Districts. The reliever allowed two hits and two runs (zero earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking one.
Caleb Goodwin took the loss for South Perth, going two and one-third innings with three runs and five hits allowed. He had just one walk and no strikeouts.
Kobe Foster started on the hill for South Perth, giving up six hits and one run over six innings, striking out four and walking two.
Swan Districts collected 11 hits in the game. Foot, Maverick Hamilton, Daniele, and Phelts each collected two hits, with Daniele going 2-for-4 and 2 RBIs. Phelts stole two bases.
Brett Walters went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead South Perth in hits. Hewitt had one run batted in as the infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Barbarich stole two bases while the defense turned three double plays.
Next up for Swan Districts is a game against Braves on Sunday. South Perth hosts Morley for a big matchup.
Morley Eagles 13, UWA Magpies 5
Alex Hall collected three hits in four at-bats as Morley Eagles defeated UWA Magpies 13-5 on Sunday at Crimea Park. Hall singled in the second, sixth, and seventh innings.
UWA Magpies were first on the board when Joris Van Ballegooy singled, scoring one run in the opening frame.
Jesse Williams walked to tie the game for Morley at the bottom of the first. Eagles added five runs on five hits in the next inning, taking a 6-1 lead thanks in part to Ben Crook’s 2-RBI single.
Morley scored six runs on six hits in the bottom of the sixth. Hall and Mitch Power hit RBI singles and Williams had an RBI double. Luke Hughes singled, scoring two, and Fujiura Masato induced Crook to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.
Kieren Hall earned the win for Morley. The reliever surrendered three hits and four runs over two innings, striking out two and walking two.
Nick Alexious took the loss for UWA Magpies. The starting pitcher went five innings, giving up nine runs (six earned) on nine hits, striking out six and walking six.
Morley starter Troy Cruz gave up four hits and one run over four innings, striking out five and walking two. Brendan Sing earned the save.
Morley collected 16 hits in the game as Hughes batted in four on a 2-for-4 day. Williams, Kieran Chapman, Aaron Bonomi, and Power had multiple hits. Williams took two out of six walks and Bonomi had two of the team’s five stolen bases.
UWA Magpies collected 11 hits in the game. Riley Spring set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading UWA Magpies with three hits in five at-bats.
Van Ballegooy and Alexiou each collected multiple hits for UWA Magpies as the defense turned one double play in the game.
Next up for Morley is a game against Perth on Friday while UWA Magpies take on Victoria Park Belmont.
