The Futures program is a talented pathway that services the best young athletes between the ages of 14-19. Athletes selected in this pathway are projected to represent WA in the future through college, national team, Perth Heat, or professional avenues.

Futures athletes are aligned to the national team and Perth Heat pathway.

Selection process- athletes are selected through; showcase events, state teams or scouting via high performance coaches.

The program is designed to run all year round with the following components;

  1. Off season program: runs during Term 2 and Term 3 of the school calendar to build fundamentals, tools, pitch design, speed and game play.
  2. Strength and conditioning: Diamond Fitness run the program ALL year round with athletes expecting to complete a program 3x per week out of the Osborne Park or Empire Ballpark facility.
  3. Technology: the program uses a combination of video, Rapsodo and Blast to evaluate and help assist players with individual development.
  4. Testing: athletes have regular strength testing to check physical performance as well as on- field testing to evaluate arm strength, bat speed, speed, agility and fielding components that align with national and international expectations.
  5. Culture and workshops: athletes are provided information on different components of what it takes to be a professional athlete to provide them with the skillset to succeed and manage themselves at a higher level beyond school. Futures are expected to align with what it takes to be a Perth Heat player and how to conduct themselves on and off the playing field.
  6. Profiling: folders are made for athletes that are shared with scouts, colleges and Baseball Australia to assist in pathways relevant to the athlete’s ability or potential.
